Non-invasive prenatal testing or NIPT is an advanced technique for screening for aneuploidy. These safe, non-invasive tests screen for chromosomal aneuploidy using a blood sample from the future mother.
NIPT helps us to ascertain whether the future baby will suffer from a chromosomal abnormality, like Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Patau syndrome, Triple X, or DiGeorge syndrome, among others.
These tests are performed on a blood sample drawn from the mother-to-be from week 9 of pregnancy. The sample undergoes comprehensive DNA sequencing. The method is currently the most reliable among tests of this type. There are no risks involved for the mother or foetus.
