Dr. María de los Llanos Medrano López-Tello is a clinical embryologist and National Laboratory Director at the IVF-Life Group. She holds a degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and Biomedicine from the University of Alicante and has extensive experience in the main assisted reproduction laboratory techniques.
Her professional activity includes oocyte retrieval and processing, cumulus removal, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, embryo biopsy, embryo transfer, gamete and embryo cryopreservation, and sperm preparation.
Clinical embryology, reproductive biology and advanced assisted reproduction laboratory techniques, including in vitro fertilisation, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, embryo biopsy and culture, gamete and embryo cryopreservation, sperm selection and andrology.
Her expertise also includes sperm biomarkers, DNA fragmentation, oocyte activation and quality management in assisted reproduction laboratories.
Dr. Llanos Medrano teaches on the Master’s degree in Human Fertility at the University of Alicante and participates in specialised workshops on sperm vitrification, andrology, and gamete and embryo cryopreservation. She also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Alicante.
Her outreach activity focuses on explaining the main assisted reproduction laboratory techniques, including oocyte and sperm vitrification, sperm selection, embryo culture and quality control systems.
Dr. Llanos Medrano conducts basic and applied research focused primarily on sperm cryopreservation, permeable cryoprotectant-free vitrification and biomarkers that can be used to assess functional and structural sperm damage during freezing and thawing.
She has also studied the role of phospholipase C zeta in oocyte activation and its potential clinical application in cases of fertilisation failure.
She has presented oral communications and scientific papers at national and international conferences organised by the SEF, ASEBIR and ESHRE, as well as at the FERTILITY congress.
Her scientific and clinical activity focuses on reproductive cryobiology, male fertility preservation, the assessment of sperm damage, oocyte activation and the optimisation of andrology and clinical embryology techniques, incorporating the highest standards of quality, safety and traceability in assisted reproduction.
