When we talk about hypothyroidism, we refer to a set of organic alterations that can lead to an insufficiency of thyroid hormones.
These hormones are essential for the proper functioning of the body. For example, the T4 hormone is fundamental for the development of the fetal central nervous system. Any imbalance in our body can affect our health and, consequently, our fertility.
It is important to maintain TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels below 2.5 mIU/L to ensure an adequate supply of thyroid hormones to the fetus. Without sufficient thyroid hormone levels, neuronal migration and the maturation and formation of critical brain areas cannot occur properly.

To keep TSH levels within healthy ranges, medical treatments are available, but there are also natural alternatives. Among these, it is recommended to avoid dairy products and soy, as they may interfere with TSH levels.

In addition to a healthy and balanced diet, other alternative therapies that may help prevent or alleviate thyroid disorders include physiotherapy and Ayurvedic medicine. We always recommend consulting a specialist before trying such treatments.
As previously mentioned, some foods can positively influence our health, while others may negatively affect fertility. Today, many of these foods are part of our daily diet, which is why the World Health Organization (WHO) warns about the need to limit the intake of saturated fats, trans fatty acids, salt, and sugars. At the same time, it recommends increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well as engaging in regular physical activity.
By avoiding foods that harm our health and increasing those that benefit it, we can also improve fertility.
A healthy and balanced diet should include different food groups. The most important group is fruits and vegetables, as they provide most of the nutrients the human body needs. Many studies show that these foods can replace others that provide far fewer nutrients, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and gastrointestinal disorders. For example, cereal and protein groups do not contain essential nutrients and can be replaced by other food combinations.
A diet excessively high in animal protein can displace the intake of other foods, thus negatively affecting fertility. Such a diet can lead to overweight and impair fertility in both women and men, although in different ways:
