Ovarian puncture or PICK-UP is a procedure performed to extract the eggs (oocytes) that have developed during ovulation, either when a patient begins their in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment or, in the case of donors, when egg donation is carried out.
Ovarian puncture is also performed in cases of fertility preservation. This technique involves vitrifying the eggs to be used when the patient is ready or wishes to become a mother.
Ovarian puncture is a decisive moment in any fertility treatment. During each menstrual cycle, a certain number of follicles grow within the ovaries. Of those follicles, only one follicle "survives" and eventually develops an egg. The rest do not grow to maturity and are lost during the process.

At IVF-Life, we perform ovarian stimulation following personalized protocols that are adapted and safe for the patient. Each patient is unique, and therefore each protocol must be adapted according to the ovarian response.

At IVF-Life, we provide prior recommendations to our patients to ensure everything is under control on the day of follicular puncture. We also avoid stressful situations during the process.
Our IVF-Life team provides support and reassurance to each patient at every stage of the process. This helps reduce stress and nervousness that may arise during treatment. We ensure they have correctly followed the instructions, always communicating, generating empathy and understanding.
Ovarian puncture is performed under sedation or general anesthesia, according to the specialist's indications. As it is an outpatient procedure, the patient will leave on the same day of the intervention.
While the procedure itself is not painful, as it is performed under sedation, it is normal for the patient to feel some discomfort after the puncture, as well as experience fatigue or feel bloated. These side effects are usually mild and short-lived.
Once the puncture is performed, the patient must wait to recover from sedation. The time may vary depending on her situation, as each patient needs a different time for this. We recommend resting on the same day after leaving the clinic.
Within a few hours, she can return to normal life but avoiding excessive physical exercise and great efforts.
Our job is to accompany each patient in their desire to start a family. We always remind them that ovarian puncture is a safe process, and that most women tolerate it without problems.
The IVF-Life fertility specialist team consists of professionals with extensive experience and recognized prestige in the world of assisted reproduction. They adapt to each patient, resolving their doubts, ensuring their well-being, creating realistic expectations, and always helping to achieve the goal of becoming a mother.
