What kind of information can I obtain about the donors?

Remember that gamete donation is anonymous and legally protected in Spain. IVF-Life can only tell you the donor’s blood group and age. That’s all. 

You will be told the donor’s age during the 12th week of pregnancy and the blood group will be revealed after the birth.


How old are the donors?

In Spain, donors can be between 18 and 35 years old. However, at IVF-Life, most of our donors are under 30 years old. We thus guarantee the optimal quality of the oocytes. 

Apart from this mandatory test, it is very likely that the doctor will ask patients for more test results based on their medical history. They can all be done either at home before coming to IVF-Life, or directly in the clinic.

How long does an oocyte donation treatment take?

It usually takes between six and eight weeks from the initial visit to the embryo transfer. However, numerous factors can affect the total length of the treatment. 


Examples of these are patients wanting to have the transfer on specific dates or women who need an endometrial biopsy or Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) that includes an additional treatment cycle, etc.

Is a certain number of eggs guaranteed?

No. Unlike other assisted reproduction clinics, IVF-Life guarantees embryos from days 3 to 5 (blastocytes) depending on the chosen treatment. 


In other words, we guarantee our patients an embryo transfer. Guaranteeing oocytes, however many there might be, does not guarantee fertilisation. This is very important when starting a fertility treatment.

Is there an age limit for undergoing an oocyte donation treatment?

Yes, the age threshold for the receiving mother is 49 years. However, the final decision is taken by the medical team at IVF-Life.

What types of chromosomal abnormalities exist?

Chromosomal abnormalities can be divided into two types: numerical and structural.

  • Numerical abnormalities occur when there is an abnormal number of chromosomes in the genetic material, greater or less than the normal 23 pairs.
  • Structural abnormalities occur when part of a chromosome is damaged (moved to another chromosome, missing, enlarged or inverted).

How does endometrial biopsy help in the success of IVF treatment?

This biopsy is very important to identify and treat problems that may affect embryo implantation. For example, chronic endometritis, an inflammation of the endometrium that can affect implantation and, if detected, can be treated before proceeding with in vitro fertilization (IVF). This significantly improves the implantation rate and, therefore, the success of the treatment.

FISH results and interpretation

The results of this analysis can be normal or pathological. Normal results indicate that the number of copies of the chromosomes evaluated is adequate, suggesting a higher probability of fertility.

On the other hand, pathological results may indicate a higher likelihood of generating embryos with chromosomal abnormalities, which could lead to fertility problems or spontaneous miscarriages.

Can DNA damage be repaired naturally?

Yes, improving semen quality and reducing sperm DNA fragmentation is possible through lifestyle changes and adopting healthier habits.
