Magnetic Sperm Selection

IVF-Life provides its patients a new method of sperm selection (MACS or Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting)

MACS is a new technique that allows us to clear out from a sperm sample apoptotic spermatozoa, whose genetic material is damaged and hence have low capacity to fertilize.

Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting

Spermatozoa are magnetically separated by passing them through specialised columns coated with a protein called Annexin V. This protein captures the apoptotic spermatozoa, and lets the not apoptotic spermatozoa, with high capacity to fertilize, pass through.

The new technique increases fertilization rates both in IVF and ICSI, and improves the embryonic quality which also increases the pregnancy rates.
